Web of Knowledge now available to NHS ATHENS users

In the same pilot scheme that gave Addenbrooke's NHS ATHENS holders access to additional e-journals from Nature and Elsevier's Science Direct we've got more good news.

Web of Knowledge is now accessible to anyone logging in with an NHS ATHENS password from one of the trusts of the Cambridge University Health Partners.

Access is made available as a a result of the national agreement between the libraries of the five Academic Health Science Centre universities, JISC Collections, the UK academic community e-procurement and negotiation service, and some of the leading publishers of e-content. 

Benefits of access to Web of Knowledge:

• multidisciplinary database covering journals in the sciences, social sciences and arts & humanities
• access to citation indexes (each article lists the references it uses, and which articles have used it as a reference since it was published)
• Journal Citation Reports - find out the Impact Factor of journals 
• Find out the h-index of authors 
• Search the Conference Proceedings Citation Index - Science edition (1990– ) indexes the published literature of the most significant conferences, symposia, seminars, colloquia workshops and conventions in a wide range of disciplines in science and technology.

New Look for NHS Evidence

NHS Evidence (www.evidence.nhs.uk) has had a revamp.

 

Access to full-text e-journals and the ability to search databases including Medline, CINAHL and PsycInfo is still available (just click "journals and databases" link).

You can still search across a limited, but high quality set of resource using the search box - you'll get access to resources from accredited sources such as NICE, SIGN and Royal Colleges. (it beats having to struggle through '00,000s of hits via some well known search engines!)

But now you can browse the A-Z topics and get a focused view including an introduction to the top, quick access to Guidance, Information for the Public, Ongoing Research and Medicines using the expanding sections.

Also new are the NICE Pathways
"NICE pathways represents a network of NICE information. 
For example, the diet pathway links up with the physical activity pathway; the COPD pathway links up with the smoking pathway. Over time, all of NICE's guidance, quality standards and related tools will be added to this network of information. For the first time you do not need to understand how NICE classifies different types of guidance to view everything NICE has said on a particular topic."
