New Quality Quest Training Sessions and Information Clinics

New times and dates in July and August 2007 are available for Quality Quest training sessions providing hands-on training in specific resources including:

  • Cochrane Library
  • PubMed
  • Library Introduction
  • Searching Newton (library catalogue) and Finding e-Journals
  • Literature Searching for Nurses and Allied Health Professionals
  • Literature searching for Junior Doctors
  • Searching Web of Science

However it may be that you need book an appointment at the Information Clinic - contact the Library for more details.

BMJ Clinical Evidence now to cover supportive and palliative care

BMJ Clinical Evidence has extended its service to cover the systematic reviewing of the evidence base behind supportive and palliative care.

The new service covers a broad range of clinical problems including constipation in people prescribed opioids, delirium in the dying patient and nausea and vomiting in people with cancer and other chronic illnesses.

BMJ Clinical Evidence is available via either Addenbrooke's NHS ATHENS or University of Cambridge ATHENS registrations, or via CamDomain. Contact the Medical Library for more details.

New England Journal of Medicine

The Medical Library is delighted to announce that the New England Journal of Medicine is now available freely via CamDomain (ie University networked computers in the Library's Wolfson Room and elsewhere) and also via University of Cambridge ATHENS.

Trial access to Binleys - June 2007

Your NHS ATHENS password will give you access to Binleys Online - an online directory of over 250 000 NHS contacts working in both management and clinical roles.

Binley's is a fully searchable database of UK NHS personnel, organisations and priority documents, and an up-to-date source of contact and statistical information.

Use your NHS ATHENS password to log in here, alternatively select it from the list of resources at MyATHENS.

Access is on a trial basis for one month only - so try it out in June, and send comments to library@medschl.cam.ac.uk

Trial access to over 500 e-books on ScienceDirect until 1 Sept 2007

A university-wide trial of e-books on ScienceDirect providing access to over 500 titles has been set up by the publisher, Elsevier Science. The trial will run until 1 September 2007.
Subject coverage includes:

  • Agricultural and Biological Sciences
  • Biochemistry, Genetics and Molecular Biology
  • Chemistry and Chemical Engineering
  • Immunology and Microbiology
  • Medicine and Dentistry
  • Neuroscience
  • Pharmacology, Toxiclology and Pharmaceutical Science
  • Psychology

Access is available through the ScienceDirect web site at http://www.sciencedirect.com/, which is already used by members of the university as an e-journal platform. It is therefore available without passwords within the 'cam.ac.uk' domain and remotely via University of Cambridge Athens password.
